How to spend 2 days in Barcelona ?

The perfect itinerary to visit Barcelona in 2 days only.

Last June, I went to Barcelona by myself. If you are going there by car from France, I highly recommend you to stop by some amazing beaches on the Costa Brava, but that could be the topic of another article.

I chose to discover Barcelona entirely by foot, which was great because i got to discover places by chance, but the city is quite big, and you often have to walk several kilometres between two spot so I would recommend to use taxis, bus or subway if you’re planning a big day.

Stop I: La Ciutat Vella.

After leaving the hotel, (which was near Parc de Montjuïc), I headed to el Barri Gotic ; a very cute district, with amazing old and colourful buildings.

My first stop was the Plaça Reial, a beautiful public square with big palm trees and cute bars

Then I went to El Born and grabbed my breakfast (cappuccino and croissant – very exotic isn’t it). There, I decided to walk around the tiny streets and enjoy the view which lead me to la Catedral de Barcelona.

Stop 2 : Las Ramblas.

Las Ramblas is the most famous street of Barcelona. This huge street is very lovely, and very crowded which means you can find a lot of restaurant or tourist shops. This is definitely a place where you want to be around noon (or maybe later since the spanish eats around 2 p.m.).

Stop 3 : La Boqueria.

Right on La Rambla I went to La Boqueria. Barcelona is famous for its numerous covered markets but La Boqueria is definitely the one you have to see. You will be amazed by its beauty and how everything is perfectly arranged to catch people’s eyes. Unfortunately, I was there too early (around 10 a.m) and everything wasn’t open so I would recommend you to get there by noon as well.

Stop 4 : Placa de Catalunya.

Very crowded but very impressive, Placa de Catalunya is the place to go if you have some shopping to do. There you can find all the brand of the world but also some gorgeous tiny decoration store.

Stop 5 : District San Pedro.

On my way to the Arc of Triumph, I walked by this incredible district that I highly recommend. Everywhere you look you can see flowered balcony. I ran into the Passatge de Sert by chance and it was one on the highlight of my day, so this is why I love discovering a city entirely by foot.

Stop 6 : Parc de la Ciutadella.

After seeing the Arc de Triomf and this huge square with gorgeous palm trees, I went to the Parc de la Ciutadella and its incredible fountain. If you’re seeking for a quit place to rest a few minutes in Barcelona; this is it.

Stop 7 : La Sagrada Familia.

Definitely a must-see of Barcelona. This cathedral is one the most famous buildings of the city and is very impressive, even more when you know a bit of its history. If you have the time you do want to visit the inside which I’ve heard, is breath-taking.

Stop 8 : El Parc Güell.

It takes a long (and quite hard) walk to get there but it sure is worth the energy. The plants and the colours are stunning and in top of that you get a nice view of Barcelona and the sea. Be sure to get there on a very sunny day though, otherwise the colour are just not as great as they should.

Stop 9 : Garcia – Casa Batllo.

On my way back to the hotel I passed by Gracia, a district of Barcelona where you can find very typical buidings with incredible architecture made by the famous Gaudi. Make sure to pass by the Casa Vicens or the Casa Batllo and why not visit them if you’re interested.

I’ve done all of this places during day one and managed to be back at my hotel around 7 p.m. wich is perfect if you want to go out and enjoy the rest of your evening on a district near where you stay.

But if you enjoy better visiting slowly, you can easily split up the itinerary into two parts; one for each day.

The next morning, now that I had done everything on my bucket list, I simply went for a walk, figured where I wanted to take my breakfeast, and then went back to the place I enjoyed the most the day before which was very nice since I knew I didn’t have to hurry, out of fear of missing a spot.

These two days were very nice, not very relaxing since I’ve walked a lot but it allowed me to discover some amazing hidden gem so I don’t regret it at all.

Have you ever been to Barcelona ? and if so, have you found some other hidden gems you’d like to share ? Please leave a comment !
